With the end of the first round of the 2nd cycle of quality children’s story book development projects in Indonesia with Room to Read “Scaling Quality Learning for Children: Developing a Habit of Reading with Partners in Indonesia,” YLAI is proud to present 4 new picture books!
Widya Ross, one of the writers of children’s book in Indonesia, also joined the YLAI team and wrote ‘Hari yang Melelahkan,’ a story about the adventures of 3 goats: Gandos, Gandas & Gendis crossing hills for fresh grass. Vannia Santoso illustrated this book using papercut technique that was first used in the Room to Read project in Indonesia. Vannia’s illustrations also made it into the Best Illustration Gallery at the Asian Festival of Children’s Content 2017 in Singapore.
Having previously won the Samsung KidsTime Authors’ Award 2016 with her book ‘Lautkah Ini?, Kusumadewi Yuliani again wrote with YLAI. This time, Dewi tells about the exciting adventures of 4 children solving the Grandpa puzzle. Rizqia Sadida as an illustrator also managed to produce lively and interesting illustrations in the book “Buah Apa, Ya?”
This is the first time for Fransisca Emilia to collaborate with YLAI. Emil also tells of a confused Monan looking for Bilung, his sister, in the wilderness and Dayak village in Borneo. The book entitled “Di Mana Adik?” was illustrated by Vincentia Valentine Pascadian and managed to capture a lot of attention and got into the Best Illustration Gallery at the Asian Festival of Children’s Content 2017 in Singapore.
“Ketika Paman Kala Diam” is the second work of Debby Lukito Goeyardi with YLAI. This book tells about Arka who has an important duty to keep Paman Kala, the clock town, Kalala. Alvinxki provides a unique and charming touch of his illustrations in bringing Kalala City to Indonesia’s diversity, making it one of the most favorite books.
We would like to congratulate and thank the writers and illustrators who have been working with Yayasan Literasi Anak Indonesia so that there is the birth of works that will add colors on children stories in Indonesia!
