YLAI Program : Book and Resource Development Program
Book Development Program
Children’s Reading Book Development
YLAI’s Reading Book Development Program started in 2014 with the successful development of a graded reading book kit, structured at developing levels of reading along with Big Books used for shared reading activities. In 2015, through a partnership with USAID-Prioritas, the leveled reading kit was used in YLAI’s Guided Reading Program in 13,000 elementary schools in 10 provinces in Indonesia.
In 2015-2016, through a partnership with an international organization, Room to Read, YLAI received initial training on the development of illustrated children’s reading books, and worked with local writers and illustrators to produce 6 quality picture storybooks which were distributed to libraries throughout Indonesia. Two of these books won the Samsung Kids Time Award competition in 2016.

In ensuing years until the present, YLAI continues to develop more engaging books that Indonesian children can enjoy. YLAI encourages the use of quality children’s reading books which are expected to enrich children’s Indonesian language skills through reading, which in turn fosters their interest, habit, and love of reading. YLAI develops a variety of children’s reading books that are culturally relevant and appropriate for the age and reading ability of children in the early grades.
The following are reading books that have been developed by YLAI:
Field Testing
YLAI believes that children can be the key assessors of quality reading books. Therefore, in the YLAI Reading Book Development process, it is important that book testing activities are carried out directly to the target readers, namely children. Children listen to the stories and respond to questions about their level of interest in the story. This process is carried out before the final editing and publishing of the book.

Children's Book Development Workshop
In turn, YLAI also holds workshops for writers and illustrators to produce children’s reading books with various contexts.
The Children’s Reading Book Development Workshop aims to train participants to understand the form of stories that can stimulate children’s reading interest. In addition, in this workshop, participants will be trained in how to explore their skills of imagination as well as the correct steps in the process of writing and illustrating stories.

Resources and Supporting Materials Development
Development of Balanced Reading Training Module
YLAI developed training modules as supporting resources for the Balanced Reading Program training. Each training module consists of several training sessions and each session is subdivided into activities and steps to be followed. Each session comes with an allocation of time, materials needed, the ultimate goal of the training, as well as step by step guidance. Summary and reinforcement questions, as well as possible answers are provided for each session. – By following these training modules, the trainers can provide training materials more efficiently and effectively as they relate to different aspects of the Balanced Reading Program.

Development of YLAI's Lesson Plan (RPP)
YLAI also develops teaching materials in the form of Lesson Plans (RPP) to assist teachers in implementing the Balanced Reading Program learning activities in the classroom. Broadly speaking, in each lesson plan there is a neatly structured learning implementation guide. This book is also equipped with a guide that contains procedures for class and teacher preparation before learning activities and teacher preparation during learning activities.

YLAI Student Exercise Book Development
In addition to teaching support materials for teachers, YLAI has also developed student activity books to support the learning of the Balanced Reading Program for students. This Student Exercise Book is designed in such a way as to help students do exercises to improve their reading and writing skills.

Each module can be accessed by teachers through the Merdeka Mengajar platform.

Support Video Development
Video Tutorial Development
In supporting the Balanced Reading Program Training, YLAI has developed video tutorials on teaching steps that can assist teachers in carrying out reading activityies in the classroom.
Through this video tutorial, teachers can learn and understand each step in full, from teacher and class preparation before the activity is carried out, to teaching steps before, during, and after reading.
Video Development Reading Children's Storybooks
